The hCG diet plan is a ground-breaking diet plan that uses a combination of a natural hormone, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, with a very low calorie diet for a limited amount of time. This is followed by six weeks of Maintenance, after which the hCG diet can be started again to lose more weight. With this diet plan you can lose one or more pounds a day in a safe, effective way with no starvation, no harmful weight loss drugs, no prepackaged meals, and no expensive gym memberships.

Because the hCG diet plan involves burning excess stored fat in a very rapid way, it is the ideal weight loss system. You will stay motivated as you watch the pounds and inches coming off each week. The key to losing weight on the hCG diet is the food plan. Your daily calories must come from a specific list of foods, which were proven by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950s to be most effective at causing the body to release a pound or more per day in abnormal fat. We have been coaching clients since 2009 and have verified that deviation from this hCG diet food list causes weight loss to slow, often dramatically.

The hCG diet also can help you change your relationship with food, especially in the Maintenance phase. Once you stop taking the hCG drops before entering Maintenance, the rapid weight loss stops and your body is ready to rest. During this phase of the hCG diet, your increased-calorie eating plan teaches your body to maintain its new weight by locking in your new metabolic rate. As you continue to add foods during Maintenance, you will discover how your body responds and that can be a revelation in how you view food and how it affects your body.

Here are the stages of the hCG diet:

  • The first two days of the hCG diet are called Load Days. For two days you will take the hCG drops and eat a high-fat, low sugar/starch diet. The highest fat foods are vegetable oil (for cooking, like fried chicken), macadamia nuts, butter, peanut butter, bacon, heavy cream, salami, mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, pork ribs, prime rib, cream cheese, sausage, eggs, ice cream, cheesecake, and avocado.

  • Starting on the third day for a minimum of 21 days and a maximum of 60 days, you will continue your hCG drops and start eating from the VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) food plan. This allows for two meals a day, each consisting of a protein, a vegetable, a fruit, and a specific grain (melba toast or grissini breadsteak). These meals can also be divided up to accommodate your schedule or your hunger level. Drink at least 75 ounces of water each day.

  • Three days before you are ready to start Maintenance, you will stop taking the hCG drops but continue on the VLCD. After 72 hours without hCG drops, you can have your first Maintenance meal.

  • Maintenance is broken into two sections: M1 and M1, each lasting three weeks. During M1 you will increase your calories to your BMR + activity level, choosing from a specific list of foods that do not include starches or sugars, except for specific fruits. During M2, you will very slowly add starch and sugar to your meals. Going slowly will allow your body to burn these calories without storing them as fat, as it has done in the past.

After six weeks of the Maintenance phase of the hCG diet, you can eat normally, within a daily calorie range, for life OR you can start another round of the hCG diet if you have more excess fat to lose.

It is important to note that six weeks of Maintenance is required to allow enough time for your body to adjust to its new weight. Some people underestimate the importance of this phase, but it is actually more important than the weight loss phase. Without following the Maintenance part of the hCG diet, the weight loss is temporary and the resulting weight gain is often more than what was lost.

Most people who do the hCG diet lose a pound a day, although many people, especially men, lose more as an overall average. Anyone who follows this diet plan and takes the hCG drops daily will lose weight faster and safer than they've ever been able to before.
